Gigante to start Santos Festival of Cycling this week
Sarah Gigante is set to take part in the upcoming Santos Festival of Cycling (Jan 21-24), representing the Australian national team. Initially slanted as the Santos Tour Down Under, Covid-19 forced organizers to cancel the WorldTour event and revamp it as a National Race Series Invitational for domestic squads.
"I'm super excited to be racing again," Gigante said. "It's a special race for me, because it was my first race with Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank back in 2020, and I had a great time meeting and working with my new teammates. Of course, it's a shame that the team can't be back racing here in Australia again. Still, I'm looking to embrace the opportunity and enjoy racing a high-quality domestic race with the national team."
The four-day stage race around Adelaide in South Australia features three road races and a criterium on the final day.
"The courses look amazing, and it's exciting to see that the women are going to finish atop Willunga Hill for the very first time," Gigante said. "Hopefully, this is the beginning of a tradition."
Fans in Australia can watch the race via live streaming on 7Plus. More information can be found here. Live updates can also be found on Twitter at @TourDownUnder.
After the Santos Festival of Cycling, Gigante heads to elite nationals to defend her time trial title on February 3 and compete in the national road race on February 7.
