Gigante ready to defend Australian national time trial title
Fresh off an impressive GC win at the Santos Festival of Cycling, Sarah Gigante is primed to defend the green and gold at the Australian National Cycling Championships starting February 3rd in Ballarat, Victoria.
The young Australian champion crushed stage 2 and 3 at the recent Santos Festival of Cycling to take the overall victory by more than three minutes.
"Everything has gone really well in my preparations, and although I haven't raced much at all over the last year, my legs felt great at the two races I've done - the National Cup in Tweed and the Santos Festival of Cycling in Adelaide."
At nationals, Gigante will attach numbers to her Cannondale Superslice time trial machine for the first time in her quest to defend the jersey in the elite time trial competition. The 20-year-old also has her sights set on the elite road race title, which she won in 2019.
"It will be a hard title to defend, but I'm just excited to be lining up strong and healthy on the start line, feeling good about all the hard work I've put in and grateful for the support I've had," said Gigante, who will also be riding in the U23 category. The road race is also a special race to me. I know how much of an honour it is to wear the green and gold all year round. It would be a mighty tough ask to repeat that, as I'm lining up without teammates this year and against a strong field."
