Gigante flies to second national time trial victory
The coveted green and gold jersey will go home with Sarah Gigante for another year after a dominant performance at the Australian elite national time trial title yesterday in Ballarat, Victoria. Starting last as defending champion, Gigante clocked 40:41.1 on the 28.6 kilometer course, finishing 16.9 seconds ahead of closest rival Grace Brown.
“I did all the hard work through lockdown and coming up to this event I was really targeting it,” an ecstatic Gigante told CyclingNews after the race. “I woke up this morning and said the hard works done, time to party.”

During the challenging lockdown months of 2020, long, dedicated hours on the trainer paid off for Gigante, whose time trial time was an incredible two minutes faster than last year's. The 20-year-old superstar also claimed the U23 title before turning her focus to the upcoming elite road race, which she won in 2019.
The national criterium championship starts February 5th (5 p.m. local time), and the road race begins February 7th (10 a.m. local). Both races can be watched live via SBS, FoxSports Australia, and Global Cycling Network. More information on how to watch can be found here.
