Race Preview: Towards Zero Race torquay and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is ready for its next two races down under: Towards Zero Race Torquay and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, the first UCI WorldTour race of 2020. The team’s roster for both races will be: Lauren Stephens (USA), Erica Clevenger (USA), Sarah Gigante (AUS), Jenelle Crooks (NZL), Sharlotte Lucas (NZL) and Nina Kessler (NED).
First up is Towards Zero Race Torquay on Thursday, January 30. Starting and finishing on The Esplanade in the heart of Torquay, the race will cover eight laps of a 13km circuit, with two short climbs and sprint points on laps 3 and 6, which will make for a dynamic, fast race. Live stream of the race will be available here.
On Saturday, February 1, the team will line up for the Deakin University Elite Women’s Road Race, which for the first time will kick off the UCI Women’s WorldTour calendar.
Over the course of the 121km race, riders will face coastal cross winds and punchy climbs before finishing along the Geelong waterfront. One of the race’s most decisive points will be the Challambra Climb at just under 10km from the finish. The challenging, spectator-lined ascent - 1.8km averaging 7% - kicks up to around 17% before the top. From there, it is a mostly fast run to the finish in Geelong, with a short, steep kicker around 6km to go.
“With so many variables and the challenging climbs, it’s hard to predict how the race will play out; it could be a solo rider, small breakaway or a larger bunch sprint,” noted Rachel Hedderman, Head Sports Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “After our 4th place finish at the Tour Down Under and Sarah’s TT National Championships victory, it’s clear that our riders are in good form and are coming together as a team. We’re looking forward to building on the early season momentum in these next races.”
