Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is currently racing the first-ever Tour of Scotland, a UCI three-day stage race with host cities including Dundee, Glasgow, Perth and Edinburgh. Today’s stage involved brutal winds and heavy rain that riders battled for 64 kilometers before race organizers made the tough but necessary call to cancel the stage with 40 kilometers to go. Racing the Tour of Scotland for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank are: Brodie Chapman (AUS), Alison Jackson (NED), Sharlotte Lucas (NZL), Shannon Malseed (AUS) and Rozanne Slik (NED). Nina Kessler (NED) and Kendall Ryan (USA) are recovering from injuries after the finishing crash at last weekend’s RideLondon.
Although today's "Biblical conditions" according to British Cycling forced the stage cancellation, riders are expecting to race tomorrow. The second stage starts in Glasgow and finishes in Perth. The stage offers an early climb up Duke’s Pass, a challenging, 4-km ascent with an average grade of 6% and pitches up to 15%. But with 100 kilometers still left in the race after the climb, there are any number of possibilities for how the race can finish at the sprint into Perth.
The final stage starts in Holyrood Park in Edinburgh and heads deep into the Scottish countryside. With several uncategorized climbs and wide open roads susceptible to heavy winds, the final stage has the potential to significantly mix up GC standings. The race will finish back in Holyrood Park, where festival attendees will be lining the streets for the 3-lap finishing circuit before the final sprint. More route details.
