Brodie Chapman Wins a Stage at the Tour de Féminin
“The Tour de Feminin was a tough race, full of all the challenges and success that bike races can bring,” said Chapman. “I am happy that I was able to stay away and win the second stage, and even with some mishaps along the way, I am proud of how we fought hard to the end.”
The race got off to a great start, with Chapman sprinting to a top 10 finish on Stage 1. On the next day, as the rain came pouring down, Chapman attacked and secured a breakaway victory. Chapman was in the yellow jersey after the 2nd day, and finished an impressive 4th place overall in the time trial on the 3rd stage. Going into the fifth and final stage, Brodie was seconds behind the yellow jersey. Rather than settle for 2nd place, the team went all-in to secure the overall victory.
“On the last day, I was down in the overall GC competition, with only 4 seconds separating me and the yellow jersey,” Chapman explained. “I took a gamble to create some distance on the field and managed to break away with a small group. We made it 20 kilometers and over half way through the race before a fierce chase was bringing the yellow jersey back to us. I attacked again in one last dig to force the gap to remain, but the yellow then attacked over the top of me, and I was way too gassed to jump again. It was an impressive defense of the yellow jersey.”
“We raced as a team, with everyone taking a part animating the race. Lex and Emily put the pressure on early, and guest rider Leah (Dixon) showed her strength with some massive pulls. I love racing - the emotion and fight; I loved being aggressive, and I’m looking forward to La Course later this week!”
Next up, the team will be racing La Course by the Tour de France on the 19th of July.
