Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank: Preview of the Canadian, Dutch and USA Road Cycling National Champ
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank riders from Canada, the Netherlands and the USA are getting ready for their National Championships, starting tomorrow through Monday. Alison Jackson (CAN), Lex Albrecht (CAN), Emily Marcolini (CAN), Nina Kessler (NED), Emily Newsom (USA) and Kendall Ryan (USA) will be racing this week. 🇺🇸 UNITED STATES
The USA National Championships are hosted once again by Knoxville, Tennessee. First up will be the individual time trial, where Emily Newsom will be racing against the clock on Thursday, June 27. The 2-lap course covers 22.9 kilometers at Melton Lake Park in Oak Ridge, TN. The smooth course has just a few rolling climbs and will be a fast and challenging time trial.
On Friday, Kendall Ryan and Newsom will race the Criterium National Championships, held in downtown Knoxville. With just two riders in the race on a longer, hillier criterium course, Ryan and Newsom will have to race strategically. With her recent victories at the Armed Forces Cycling Classic, Ryan is prepared to sprint for her chance at the stars and stripes this year.
Saturday’s road race covers 71 miles in the 9-lap course. This means nine times up the gruelling Sherrod Road climb, a crowd-lined ascent at the beginning of each loop that hits 14% gradient.
Lex Albrecht, Alison Jackson and Emily Marcolini will be racing Canadian Nationals, which will be held around Beauce, Quebec. The racing kicks off with the time trial on Friday, June 28. The out-and-back ITT course covers 28 kilometers with a steady climb on the first half, before riders turn around and fly back into town for the finish.
The road race will cover 108.5 kilometers, starting in Saint-Georges, Quebec. From there, riders will race along rolling terrain to Saint-Odilon, where they do three laps of a smaller circuit before heading back to Saint-Georges. The criterium will be on Monday, July 1. 🇳🇱 THE NETHERLANDS
Nina Kessler will be racing the road race for the Dutch National Championships, which has a stacked field that includes top ranked riders in the world and the current UCI World Champion, Anna van der Breggen. The road race features five laps on mostly flat terrain, covering a total of 122.6 kilometers. Nationals Schedule & How to Watch Thursday, June 27, 2019
