Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank: Ready for the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, Results at Chrono Gatineau
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank has landed in the UK for the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, the next stop on the UCI World Tour calendar. The race features six days of racing, from June 10-15.
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank brings a multi-dimensional squad to the Women’s Tour that includes Brodie Chapman (AUS), Alice Cobb (GBR), Alison Jackson (CAN), Nina Kessler (NED), Shannon Malseed (AUS) and Rozanne Slik (NED).
Since 2018, the race has offered equal prize money to the men’s event, increasing from £31,000 to £80,000. The race has also risen in prestige since gaining World Tour status in 2016, and this year boasts an extra day of racing, a deep international field and live stream video coverage.
“We’re thrilled to be racing the OVO Energy Women’s Tour,” said Linda Jackson, Founder of Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “This is a world-class race in all aspects - intense competition, incredible crowds and video coverage so our friends and partners can follow the action from abroad.”
Stage 1 starts off in Suffolk, with a 157.6 km road race from Beccles to Stowmarket, a mostly flat stage that will likely end in a bunch sprint.
On Stage 2, riders will entertain the crowds on the spectator-friendly, criterium-style race at Kent’s Cyclopark, a local cycling hub and popular 2.5 km circuit.
The third day features two back-to-back climbs in the opening kilometers: a 9km climb up Pishill, followed by a shorter, steeper climb up Britwell Hill with an average grade around 9%. The stage begins in Henley-on-Thames and ends at the iconic UNESCO World Heritage site of Blenheim Palace.
Stage 4 brings a hilltop finish in Burton Dassett Country Park, with a total of four category two climbs over the 158.9 kilometers.
The Powys in Wales hosts what the Women’s Tour calls the “toughest-ever stage in OVO Energy Women’s Tour history.” Stage 5 covers rolling terrain and two category 1 ascents at Gorddwr Bank and Epynt. In total, the 140km race has a total of 2,206 meters of climbing, which has the potential to stir up the general classification standings.
The final day of racing will start with a first-ever lap of the Carmarthen Velodrome. Mid-race, riders will face a category 1 climb up Black Mountain, followed by undulating terrain into the finish. In the approach to the finish line, riders will race on Pembrey’s new, closed-road cycle circuit.
