Race Preview: Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is now in Quebec, Canada for two UCI 1.1 events, the Grand Prix (GP) Cycliste Gatineau and the Chrono Gatineau. Rolling off a successful weekend of racing at the Armed Forces Cycling Classic, the team will be taking on the UCI road race tomorrow, June 6, and the individual time trial on Friday, June 7.
The Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank roster for the road race will be: Lex Albrecht (CAN), Nicolle Bruderer (GTM), Sharlotte Lucas (NZL), Emily Newsom (USA) and Kendall Ryan (USA). Racing the time trial will be Emily Newsom and Lauren Stephens.
The 104.4-km road race features winding roads with early climbs that can favor breakaways, but typically the race comes down to a fast bunch finish. With a combination of strength and speed, the Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank riders will be ready for the challenge.
On Friday, Newsom and Stephens will race the 17.4-km time trial, held on the same roads as the GP. The mainly out-and-back, rolling course ascends approximately 400 feet on the way out before turning around and descending back to the finish line along the Ottawa River. Both Newsom and Stephens have experience racing the Chrono course, with Stephens having won the event in 2017.
