Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is ready for the Amgen Tour of California, which starts this Thursday, May 16. The three-day UCI World Tour stage race, held concurrently with the men’s event, will kick off in Ventura, CA, the hometown of Kendall Ryan, who won the opening stage in last year’s event.

The Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank line-up for the Amgen Tour of California will be Brodie Chapman (AUS), Alice Cobb (GBR), Alison Jackson (CAN), Emily Newsom (USA), Kendall Ryan (USA) and Lauren Stephens (USA).

The longest women’s race in the event’s history, this year’s three-stage race will include an accumulative 20,800 feet of climbing and 177 total miles.

“Having seen the courses, I think this is going to be the toughest Tour of California yet,” said Rachel Hedderman, Head Sports Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “It’s a world class field, and the competition is going to be intense. After strong showings in Gila and Yorkshire, I believe we are well prepared and ready to race, and I’m looking forward to some exciting competition!”

“Starting and finishing the first stage of the 2019 Women’s Amgen Tour of California in Ventura is a big deal for me and my sister, Alexis Ryan,” said Kendall Ryan. “This will be the first time I’ve ever raced in my hometown, let alone a World Tour Race. Navigating the roads I’m most familiar with in a huge peloton is going to be an amazing sensation. No Strava records will be safe in the coming days.”

Stage One of the Tour of California starts and finishes in Ventura. The 60-mile course features six QOMs and a total of almost 5,000 feet of climbing through its scenic route through the Ojai Valley and along the coastal town of Carpinteria before returning to Ventura. With the last hill just three miles from the finish - a .8 mile climb to the Serra Cross - it will be a dynamic finish, with any number of possibilities for the last sprint.

Stage Two covers just 46 miles but includes a grueling climb up Mt. Baldy. With over 7,300 feet of climbing, the course traverses through the San Gabriel Mountains, and the beyond category ascent is where climbers like Brodie Chapman can shine.

Stage Three is the longest stage, covering 78.3 miles and is nearly identical to the men’s course. This will be the first time the women’s race concludes in Southern California, starting in Santa Clarita and finishing at the iconic Rose Bowl. The course is anything but easy, as it passes through the San Gabriel Mountains before making its final descent into Pasadena.
