Brodie Chapman (AUS) powered her way to a top ten finish through the final climbs of Flèche Wallonne, finishing 9th overall. A well executed team plan kept Chapman in a solid position to go with the leaders on the final ascents of Côte de Cherave and the Mur de Huy.
“I am very happy with how the team rode today,” said Ruud Verhagen, Sports Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “It was the plan to bring Brodie in best possible position for the finish, and we did so well. It’s amazing how each rider did her job as we discussed. We had a strong team plan today, and seeing it come together was great.”
“Wow, I’m really stoked to crack a top 10 in the WWT this year, at this race especially,” said Brodie Chapman. “The team rode really supportively for me today. It was awesome to see the plan come together, particularly after such a successful Amstel. It was so hard! There are still things I learned, and I will try to aim for that top step next year. It’s a beautiful race, La Flèche Wallonne.”
Lauren Stephens (USA) secured a substantial breakaway with five other riders and was caught in the local circuit. Dealing with a mechanical mishap, Alison Jackson (CAN) spent 20km chasing the main peloton, and when she caught back to the main group, she was ready. With 10k to go, Jackson launched a strong solo attack, getting a 10” gap on the field, while Chapman waited for her opportunity. When the leaders attacked on the Cherave, Chapman went with them, with a solid finishing climb on the Mur to secure 9th place overall.
Next up, Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank will be racing Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the final race of the Ardennes Classics, on Sunday, April 28.
