Shannon Malseed Wins Stage at Joe Martin, Prepares for Final Day; Squad in Europe Lines Up For Tour

Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is racing another double race weekend, with the Tour of Flanders tomorrow and the ongoing Joe Martin Stage Race (JMSR). Lining up for the Tour of Flanders is: Brodie Chapman (AUS), Alison Jackson (CAN), Nina Kessler (NED), Kendall Ryan (USA), Roxanne Slik (NED) and Lauren Stephens (USA).

Shannon Malseed (AUS) kicked off JMSR with a second place finish in a breakaway sprint up the final climb, and won the second stage with a powerful sprint across the line. “[It was] such an amazing team effort,” said Malseed. “I couldn’t have pulled off the win if it weren’t for my Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank squad riding the way they did today with 100% commitment.”

After countless attacks from Sharlotte Lucas, Lex Albrecht and Alice Cobb, and a long day in a breakaway for Emily Newsom and Emily Marcolini, Malseed launched off the front when it counted, and held a small - but big enough - gap all the way to the finish. After today’s time trial, Malseed is second place overall in the general classification. The final stage takes place downtown Fayetteville on Sunday, with a technical course and challenging climb into the finish — a combination that makes the JMSR criterium one of the toughest on the US calendar.

In Flanders, the team will be racing one of the most iconic races on the calendar, in its 16th edition for the women’s race. The 159km loop starts and finishes in Oudenaarde, starting with a number of flat, cobbled sections, including Lange Munte (10km), Lippenhovestraat (33km), Paddestraat (35km) and Haaghoek (61km). The climbing starts around 55 kilometers into the race, with a number of punchy climbs, starting with the Achterberg, and continuing to an even tougher finale than in previous years with the addition of the Taaienberg climb. The final 40 kilometers will be the same as the men’s race.
