Race Preview: Joe Martin Stage Race
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is lining up today for the 42nd edition of the Joe Martin Stage Race. The four-day stage race features challenging courses that include steep climbs, an uphill time trial and fast finishes. Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank’s roster for this year’s event will be: Lex Albrecht (CAN), Alice Cobb (GBR), Sharlotte Lucas (NZL), Shannon Malseed (AUS), Emily Newsom (USA) and guest rider Emily Marcolini (CAN).
"After a great start to the US season in Redlands, the next US stop for the team is the Joe Martin Stage Race," said Rachel Hedderman, Program Manager and Head Sports Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. "With 2 hard road stages, an uphill TT and one of the hardest crits on the circuit, the race is really suited to the team's strengths, and I’m looking forward to continuing with momentum that we start at Redlands." The racing kicks off on Thursday with a 67-mile road race that climbs into Devil’s Den State Park. After a steep descent (where Kendall Ryan scored the fastest segment overall in the 2018 race), the field ascends out of the Park and continues to an uphill finish on Mount Sequoya. The second stage is another road race, climbing a total of 3,500 feet before its fast, flat finish at 64 miles.
On Saturday, riders will head back to Devil’s Den for a three-mile uphill time trial. The race concludes on Sunday in downtown Fayetteville with a technical, 1.2-mile criterium that includes a tough, punchy climb leading into the start/finish line.
