Race Preview: Redlands Bicycle Classic
Pescadero, CA — March 11, 2019 — Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank will be lining up for the 35th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic this Wednesday. The longest continuously running professional stage race in the USA, the Redlands Classic has solidified itself as one of the premier races on the American racing calendar. Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank will be bringing a strong squad to Redlands: Lex Albrecht (CAN), Nicolle Bruderer (GTM), Alice Cobb (GBR), Shannon Malseed (AUS), Emily Newsom (USA), Lauren Stephens (USA) and guest rider Emily Marcolini (CAN).
“After a great training camp with the whole team in California last month, we have half the team racing the classics in Europe, and I’m looking forward to kicking off the team's US race campaign with the other half at the Redlands Bicycle Classic,” said Rachel Hedderman, Head Sports Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank.
“Redlands has always been an important race for the team, and one that we’ve enjoyed success at. As the PRT season opener this year we’re hoping for Redlands to prove a successful start to our US season.”
With five stages of varying terrains, the USA Cycling Pro Road Tour (PRT) event is known to feature top competitors from around the world. First up, the athletes will face the 7-mile Crafton Hills Time Trial on Stage 1, a fast out-and-back course. On Stage 2, riders return to the Highlands Circuit Race, with 20 challenging laps on a course lined by spectators and a punchy hilltop finish, won by Stephens in 2017. The third stage is the City of Yucaipa Road Race, which features the challenging ascent to Oak Glen, a climb that has the potential to determine the overall victor. But with two days left of racing, Saturday’s criterium and Sunday’s iconic Sunset Road Race, anything can happen. With its relentless climb over 9 laps of the “Sunset Loop”, the 68.1-mile final stage has often determined the ultimate champion of the Redlands Bicycle Classic.
Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank continues to be focusing on the UCI World Tour calendar while maintaining a strong force in the North American racing calendar. Watch the Redlands Bicycle Classic, including video, via the event's Facebook page, and follow on Twitter using #RedlandsClassic.
