In an exciting finish to the Cadel Evans / Deakin University Women’s Road Race, Brodie Chapman (AUS) surprised her competitors by snipping the day’s biggest QOM, the Challambra, at the line. The win scored Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank the Queen of the Mountains jersey and Chapman finished 6th place overall. Arlenis Sierra (CUBA) attacked the breakaway that formed after the QOM to take the overall victory.
“The Cadel Evans/Deakin University Women’s Road Race is an exciting course because any type of rider can win,” said Brodie. “The wind played only a small role today, and it was the constant vigilance of my team and confident position they put me in to get over the demanding climb in a small group in the last 10KM.
"The objective was to win the race, but I’m happy to see where I’m at, and come away with some polka-dots for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. I still have a few tricks to learn in order to get myself a better spot in the final sprint, but it was such an affirming race for the team. I can’t wait to see what else we are capable of.”

Kim Palmer, Race Director for the team during the Australia racing block, said, “The whole team rode well today. We had a plan with some options, and I am proud how the girls executed it. To come away with the QOM jersey is an added bonus, and I’m excited to see what the team is capable of in the future.”
The team has had solid results in these first races of the season. Alison Jackson (CAN) and Lauren Stephens both finished in the top 10 at the Santos Tour Down Under, with Alison finishing 5th and Lauren 7th. Brodie was unable to start the Tour Down Under due to a severe case of food poisoning that had affected half of the team. Brodie had the worst of it, having to be hospitalized and suffering a scratched esophagus due to the severity of the illness.
“We’re glad that Brodie was able to recover, and it is outstanding to see the team coming together and working so cohesively this early in the season,” added Linda Jackson, Founder of Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “We’re looking forward to building on this momentum in the races to come.”
Next up, the team will race the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, starting January 30th.
