May 16, 2018 (Pescadero, CA) — On Thursday, May 17, Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank will be racing the Amgen Tour of California, the only UCI Women’s World Tour event on the North American continent. The three-day race kicks off in Elk Grove, California, then heads up to the mountains above Lake Tahoe before finishing on a fast and flat circuit in Sacramento.
Lining up for the team will be: Brodie Chapman (AUS), Alice Cobb (GBR), Ingrid Drexel (MEX), Alison Jackson (CAN), Shannon Malseed (AUS) and Kendall Ryan (USA).
“As a Northern California-based team, this is such a special opportunity to race close to home and on the world stage,” said Linda Jackson, Founder of Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “The team has been training up in Tahoe to be prepared for the rigors of the second stage, with a huge 8-mile climb and the 7,740’ summit of Luther Pass. It will be an exciting three days of racing, and we’re looking forward to having many of our friends in the local cycling community along the course.”
On stage 1, the team will race 80 miles starting and ending in the rural California Delta region around Elk Grove, California. With a mostly flat course, it’s expected to be a race for the sprinters.
Next, the riders will ride into the mountains, with a 70-mile stage featuring three epic QOMs: the 7,740’ summit of Luther Pass, the 8-mile climb up Kingsbury Grade and the shorter but challenging finishing climb. The big finale will be the dynamic circuit race around the California State Capitol in Sacramento on Saturday.
Before the racing begins, Silicon Valley Bank is hosting a Cycling Extravaganza Gala event tonight, featuring cycling legends Phil Liggett, and Paul Sherwen and Bob Roll, to raise funds to support women’s cycling at the highest level. [Learn More]
