May 7, 2018 (Pescadero, CA) — On the final day of the Redlands Bicycle Classic, Emma Grant pulled off a stunning victory on the Sunset Road Race, a 68-mile race on a relentless, undulating nine-lap course above downtown Redlands.
On her win today, Emma said, “I can’t quite believe it! I’ve always dreamed of winning the Sunset stage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic, and it hasn’t sunk in yet that this just happened. I gained so much from spending the spring racing in Europe and really tapped into that today. We rode really strong as a unit, and it feels amazing to pull off the win for the team.”
The Sunset Road Race was dynamic from the start, with Kate Buss launching a counter attack on the first climb that led her to a solo breakaway for several laps before Gillian Ellsay bridged from the main peloton.
Once the gap came down, attacks started launching from the field, resulting in a small selection in the front group, which included Emma.
On the final lap, Emma made her move on the climb, and with Kirsti Lay the only one to respond, the duo raced to the finish. In the final kilometers, Emma made her winning move to cross the line first.
Next up, the team be racing the next UCI World Tour event: the Amgen Tour of California.
