Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank is lining up today for the Joe Martin Stage Race, the first big race on the USA Cycling’s Pro Road Tour calendar. With over 40 years of history, the Joe Martin Stage Race features challenging courses, steep climbs, an uphill time trial and tough competition. Lining up for this year’s event will be: Nicolle Bruderer, Kate Buss, Emily Newsom, Kendall Ryan, Jennifer Tetrick and Gabby Traxler.
“This year’s race will be different than in years past,” said Ed Beamon, Sports Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “In the past, it’s started off with a decisive uphill time trial, which sets the tone for the rest of the races. Now, the riders won’t see that time trial until Saturday.
“This new format will give plenty of opportunity for an all-out GC battle, and it'll be exciting to see how the race unfolds.”
The race kicks off with a 64-mile road race this afternoon and will feature a mid-race climb out of Devil’s Den and steep uphill finish. Friday’s road race will cover 60 miles and 3,500 feet of climbing, a demanding course that will set the stage for the uphill Time Trial on Saturday. The race concludes in downtown Fayetteville with a technical 1.2-mile criterium with an uphill section leading to the start/finish line that will get progressively more challenging through the race.
