In a thrilling photo finish, Kendall Ryan scored a podium for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank at the Cadel Evans Road Race - Towards Zero Race Melbourne. Wiggle High5’s Annette Edmondson finished first, just ahead of the 2010 and 2011 UCI Road World Champion, Georgia Bronzini (Cyclance Pro Cycling) in 2nd.
The 12-lap, 5.3km circuit race was held on Melbourne’s iconic Formula 1 track, and was animated from the start. Other teams tried to send riders up the road, but it was clear that the race was going to come down to a sprint.
“The team did a great job today keeping it together and launching me into good position for the sprint,” said Kendall Ryan. “My legs are coming into good form, and I was excited to be up there sprinting against some of the best in the world. It was close - I wasn’t sure what the result was going to be but knew I had to give it my all out there.”
“It was a great effort by our women today,” noted Ed Beamon, Sport Director for Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank. “The team worked together and helped move Kendall into position at the right time to deliver her into the final sprint. With a bevy of world class sprinters on hand, Kendall used great timing and power to secure the podium spot, only centimeters from the victory. I’m happy with the work the ladies have done this week and the results they achieved today.”
The team has Friday to rest before heading to the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on Saturday.
