Team TIBCO - Silicon Valley Bank riders put in an incredible team effort on the 68 kilometer La Course by Le Tour de France yesterday to enable Lauren Stephens to finish 7th on the day.
The team kept Lauren protected until the bottom of the final Col d'Izoard climb where she was part of an 11-rider break that got away. Towards the top the break splintered with Annemiek van Vleuten the eventual winner and Stephens 7th, 1:51 down.
This result means that Lauren will be one of the 19 riders who will race a second stage on Saturday in Marseilles; a 23-kilometer pursuit style event around the Orange Vélodrome.
"It was a terrific team effort." Ed Beamon, the team’s Sports Director said afterwards: "Lauren’s success today can be greatly attributed to the work her teammates put in to keep her in position. She then rode a steady pace and kept the final part of the climb under control to minimize the time gaps."
