Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank Update

May 18, 2017

Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen entertain the guests at the

Silicon Valley Cycling Foundation Gala

Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank competed in Amgen’s Tour of California last week, the only Women’s World Tour race scheduled in North America in 2017.  The team finished second overall in the team competition against some of the top teams in the world and scored several top ten finishes in the four-day stage race.

Following the Tour of California, the team attended Silicon Valley Cycling Foundation’s seventh annual cycling Gala, featuring cycling legends Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwen, Bob Roll.  The event was a huge success and positions the team well to pursue its goal of an increased international racing calendar for it’s athletes.

This week the team is headed up to Canada to compete in two top-level UCI races in Gatineau, Quebec, just outside the Nation’s capital.  Friday's 21 kilometer individual time trial is followed by a 104.4-kilometer road race on Saturday.  The road race includes two laps of a hilly 30-kilometer circuit in Gatineau Park before a flat run in to the finish.

This will be the first "home" race for Lex Albrecht as a member of Team TIBCO – Silicon Valley Bank: "I am looking forward to racing in Gatineau, it's rare that I have the opportunity to compete at the world class level so close to home."

Sports Director Ed Beamon:
“Friday’s time trial is a great opportunity for Lauren, Brie, Ingrid and Kate to show their strength in this discipline. It’s a really nice course and a good distance for our riders; all of whom I think are capable of reaching the podium.  For Saturday we switch gears and will be planning for the traditional sprint finish.  We will look to set up Kendall Ryan who showed great form winning Dana Point and coming close in two stages in the Chongming Island World Tour race.  The course also offers ample opportunities for breakaways, especially in Gatineau Park.”
