After back-to-back cobble races in Holland last weekend (Drenthe and Drentse 8), Team TIBCO – Silicon Valley Bank is back in Italy. On Sunday, the team will race the final event of their first European block. The Team will compete in Trofeo Alfredo Binda, the 3rd round of the UCI Women’s World Tour.
The 131.5-kilometer route has much more climbing than the previous rounds of the World Tour. The race route is on narrow and twisty mountain roads around the town of Cittiglio, on the banks of Lake Maggiore. The race concludes with four 18-kilometer laps that include two short but steep climbs each lap. It is on the second climb in Orino, where the strongest attacks will most probably occur before the seven-kilometer run downhill to the finish line.
Sports Director Ed Beamon:
“After a tough weekend of cobbles and wind in Holland we are looking forward to the challenging course in Cittiglio. I think the hillier terrain will suit the team and coming off a solid training block in Freiburg, Germany. I expect the girls will be ready for the punchy circuit of the Trofeo Alfredo Binda. This will be our last Spring test in Europe before heading back to the States and the girls are motivated and hungry for a good result.”
Last week’s results
While half the team is in Europe doing the Women’s World Tour, other team members are enjoying success around the globe. Kendall Ryan took the top spot on the podium at the Tour de Murrieta stage 2 criterium in California last week.
At the Oceania Championships in Canberra, Australia, our 18-year-old New Zealander, Madeleine Park, took Bronze medals in the U23 Individual Time Trial and in a very hot and tough road race.
