// Q&A with Sarah

Why cycling?

I love the challenge the sport provides, as well as the social aspect of suffering through tough yet beautiful rides with training buddies. The team aspect of the sport is amazing, and I also love how there is such a direct correlation between what you put in and what you get out.

What's your motivation to train on those extra tough, cold-weather days?

I usually train with my friends, so I would be sad to miss out on the fun! Another thing that motivates me is always striving to be better than I was yesterday. Not much feels better than a hard-earned personal record!

Favorite ride:

I love the Tour de Burbs bunch ride in Melbourne. It is a midweek evening ride that just goes through the suburbs of Melbourne, and there is quite a lot of traffic, but it’s always super hard! I love that you never know who will show up - everyone is welcome! - but what you do know is that it’ll be a great hit out no matter what!

Career highlight:

Winning the 2019 Australian Elite Road Race National Championship at the age of 18 was completely unexpected and the coolest feeling in the world!

2020 Goals:

I’d like to be a great teammate, learn a lot about racing in UCI races, improve my climbing, do well in the Australian summer of cycling and have a lot of fun!

When not riding, I like to...:

Play with my cat Lilo, find someone else’s dog to pat, go to the beach, catch up on university lectures, watch movies in Spanish or French and call it 'studying’, analyse random Strava segments for fun, do a core session or maybe just completely chill out!

Favorite warmup song:

Waka Waka by Shakira

Favorite post-ride food:

Eggs and kidney beans - delicious!

Any advice to future // aspiring cyclists?

Make sure you have fun and love what you do!
Race often and go for rides with people who are faster than you :)

Interesting fact:

One of the most exciting aspects about moving to California for me is that I will be approximately 12000km closer to Disneyland than I currently am. I absolutely love theme parks and rollercoasters and absolutely think we need to take a team bonding trip there!
